Saggio Hills hearing Tuesday

November 25th, 2007 by Tom Negrino · 4 Comments

The next chapter in the story of the Saggio Hills development will be written at the Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, November 27, at 7 PM at Healdsburg City Hall.

Looks like the development agreement has not yet been released, so that part of the project won’t be discussed at this meeting, as previously announced.

Instead, the commission will be discussing the Area Plan and the Tentative Map. The Planning Commission’s agenda is kind of hard to find on the City’s Website, so here’s a direct link (PDF). But you might not want to bother; there’s not much on that agenda of interest, besides the Saggio Hills item. Note that the time for public comments is before the part of the agenda where the project will be discussed. We’ll be there; stop by and say hello.

My husband Warren and I were at the PC meeting. Great idea, Tony Negrino, to announce this site. We were encouraged by the turnout of interested citizens at the meeting and the number of substantive comments on the impacts of the Saggio Hills project. We hope to join with other like-minded community members in assessing the project, advising the PC and the City Council of our concerns, and helping our entire community understand the project and its impact on Healdsburg. Please feel free to contact me .

I too was at the meeting for the first couple of hours last night. My sense is that Saggio Hills is going to happen and it probably is as good a project as we can hope for in that area. Given that, there are a number of issues that could be addressed by those wanting to still have some imput. For example, how much water will be needed and how to build in the maximum amount of efficiency in the use of that water? Or the issue of a significant increase in traffic on Healdsburg Ave. Should it be widened to four lanes up to the intersection with Passalaqua Drive? Would that leave enough room for bike paths? Should there be a small station for the “Smart Train” (if it ever gets built!)? Etc, etc.

Another BIG issue is what kind of development do we want across the Avenue? Has anything been done so far in terms of an area plan? I don’t know, but I will probably contact the city to find out.

Enough for now. Thanks for putting up this site; great idea. Hank Skewis

There is a Town Meeting tonight at 6 pm at the Senior Center in downtown Healdsburg (on Matheson). Saggio Hills will be discussed, in particular the water issue and details of the Development Agreement. I encourage all who are interested in these topics and/or the general project to attend. Please put the word out.
Hank, I agree a water efficient project is extremely important. Based on my present information, I further believe that the City should require a more water efficient project.
